Kerridge Commercial Systems and Codeway – truly portable technology

Kerridge Commercial Systems, a leading supplier of software solutions, computer services and business communications technology into the distribution, wholesale and merchant markets, has today announced a strategic partnership with Codeway, a leader in automatic identification and mobile data solutions for logistics.

(April 2004) Increasingly businesses, of all types and sizes, need staff to be able to access the business systems, in place, when they are away from their desks. This might be for a variety of reasons, and to facilitate this, mobile access technology is required.

The partnership with Codeway enables Kerridge Commercial Systems' customers to become truly 'mobile'. The Hand Held Terminals provides wireless access to the back-office system and allows non-office based staff such as sales reps, warehouse staff, yard and delivery staff to make order enquiries, check on stock availability, receipt products, place orders and send proof of delivery immediately back to the office.

By using Hand Held Terminals, companies can handle more customers, more quickly and more professionally. And, it provides access to the system from anywhere in the business via wireless technology. The idea of Hand Held Terminals (HHTs) has been around for some time, but it's only with the emergence of suitably priced technology and Kerridge Commercial Systems' specifically developed software that it has become a really affordable solution.

The benefits are numerous. The principle behind the HHT operation is to provide all the functionality necessary to make the job easier and without having to keep popping back into the office to check. Any member of staff with a HHT is able to access a selected number of functions, including sales order entry, price checking, stock availability, account status enquiry, stock cycle counting, stock receipting and recording stock movements around the yard.

"And, as the descriptive names implies – it is portable. You can take the HHT with you anywhere when walking around the yard with your customer," says Ian.
