Kerridge Commercial Systems, leading software provider to the builders' merchants' market place, recently became the first supplier of builders' merchants' software to be awarded e-Xact accreditation.

According to Mike Shippin, Director of e-Xact, "'e-Xact activated' is a new scheme we have launched for companies selling software to merchants. To qualify, software companies will have to provide details of how their software interfaces with e-Xact (e.g. handling it's standard format files or interfacing with Level 3 e-Xact Servers)."
Companies will also have to demonstrate that their software conforms to a set of basic interface requirements.

Builders' Merchants and other e-Xact members can now seamlessly be kept updated with supplier product information and price data. The data is fed through the Kerridge Commercial Systems' interface with the e-Xact database, and any updates can be performed instantly.
As part of the Kerridge Commercial Systems' K8 solution, integration with manufacturers, suppliers and bureaus catalogues / price lists is provided. One of these key integration layers is that with the on-line e-Xact system. Through this integration, distributors and merchants can selectively 'download' product data from the e-Xact system and automatically update their K8 price, product and stock files with data such as:
· Supplier/manufacturer product codes
· Descriptions
· Barcodes etc..
Additionally, direct access is provided to the rich content held on the e-Xact database so that for example a 'point of sale' operator can immediately see product images, COSHH data, waste packaging information and more.
Extended Functionality
The several layers of product, pricing and stocking details provided by K8 can be automatically updated from e-Xact. Normally, distributors and merchants have limited data maintenance resource and therefore only hold the details of the products that they normally stock on file. With K8 and e-Xact integration, many thousands of products can be held on file and called upon at the 'point of sale' for exceptional / special purchase and sales. This helps to ensure that all manufacturer and supplier data is accurately available at the point of contact with the customers. The availability of product codes, descriptions, prices etc. at the point of sales helps to reduce the number of human errors, increase customer service and provide better and more reliable management information.
Users can choose to update product data automatically or make use of checkpoints to validate data. This can be carried out either on demand or automatically as part of a 'batch' process.
